The Vain Jackdaw

While reading through Aesop’s Fables with my boys one stood out to me - The Vain Jackdaw. In addition to the truth of the story being applicable to life, the colorful and delicate images are very compelling to an artist’s mind. :)

“The Vain Jackdaw” - (in my own words)

The plain black Jackdaw, seeing he is not very brilliant in color compared to other birds, decides to covertly pluck feathers from various friends and then attempts to adorn himself with them without causing suspicion. He seems to be successful in tricking his fellow birds and is voted the MOST beautiful by far. But in his short flight to the winner’s stage the feathers fall loose and his false identity is seen by all.

The moral of the story...

“It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds.”
